Before I start designing Kimmy's website I wanted to have an image of what I wanted to develop in my mind. Do nothing but think and imagine what would I like the website to look like and where to place each and every section I decided to include to the Website's Structure. The image I first had was a white background with colorful dots of many light pattern colors. Then a menu across the top of the homepage with drop down lists of the links to the different webpages. I imagined the logo at the top left of all pages and a slideshow of images at the homepage, but I thought of keeping it simple.
After the first image I had, I wanted to start sketching the website on paper to bring that idea into a design that could be done and be efficient for Kimmy's business. However, I soon realized I neither had a pencil with me nor a pen because I moved back in UK and my uni belongings were still in the storage enjoying summer holidays. There was no time to be wasted and no one to lend one. So, I started the designs on Paint.Net using simple shapes to make the visuals of my ideas and improve them.
Here I present you the very first idea of my designs and since I was using Paint.Net I started playing around with colors from the beginning, even though I know the correct way is to just take a pen and paper and work with simple ideas on your designs.
Then I decided to change the background color from purple to a vivid pink which is more modern, but I kept the white lines. I added where the Menu box will be and the slideshow in a weird shape that reminds of a nail.
Then, I decided that the Menu bar looks very thick and I reduced its volume to a normal sized one.
Also, I thought that this slideshow shape could not work and is a bad idea. So, I changed the shape to a smooth angled rectangle and I brought it to the middle rather than having its edges touching the sides of the screen.
I changed the color again to a more sweet and candy-like pink.
I got the basic idea I wanted for the homepage and then moved into collecting image material related to Kimmy's Nail & Beauty business.
This is the image collection I was observing and studying in order to get a professional view into the website I was making for Kimmy.
At the process of design I realized that my Website Structure guide did omitted the Contact Us section where you could find the location and contact details of Kimmy's Nail & Beauty salon. However, I decided not to include a Contact Us section but place those important details at the About Us Section.
This is the result of my full design of the website.
